Immediate Relief from Angina Pain with Glyceril Trinitrate


Blood carries oxygen through the whole body. These is a normal function and is facilitated by hemoglobin. Blood from the lungs that is Oxygenated is carried through veins to the heart. The heart muscle cells require a steady supply of nutrients and oxygen to remove waste products and buttress the heart. Coronary arteries handle the provision of blood to the heart. When the heart fails to receive enough blood, it leads to an affliction known as angina.

A disorder that occurs when there is reduced blood circulation to the muscles of the heart is known as angina. The heart acts as a pump and needs oxygen to get the blood flowing through the whole body. Reduced blood flow to the heart might be as a result of coronary heart disease. Angina is a type of chest throb that is related to a temporary lack of oxygen to the heart muscle. The lack of oxygen might be as a result of too much demand for the heart muscles or a general lack of oxygen.

It is temporary in that it may last for ten minutes or less, and it may likely go away. Blockage of the coronary artery causes it hence denying the heart of oxygen. The risk of angina is related to age, as people grow older the risk increases. It is also related to family history, health factors such as weight and cholesterol levels.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

The primary symptoms of angina are mostly chest pains that are associated with squeezing oppressing feeling on the chest. There are milder symptoms, but chest pains are the most dominant. Diagnosis is done by a review of family history, stress tests and an arteriogram may be performed to identify the blockage.
Treatment

Treatment is dependent on the degree of blockage of the arteries. Glyceryl trinitrate is used to relieve pain from angina. It is also known as nitro-glycerine. Nitroglycerine is a thick, textured pallid yellow vasoligating agent. Glyceryl trinitrate works by activating GMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate) and production of prostacyclin.

Nitro-glycerine inhibits the production of thromboxane synthase. Thromboxane synthase handles the manufacture of blood platelets and the reduction of blood flow to a clotting part of the body. Suppression of this component leads to relaxed muscles that in turn reduces the pain associated with angina. It works by dilating the coronary arteries by increasing the collateral circulation of blood, and this helps reduce the chest pains as the heart muscles are receiving enough oxygen from the blood.

The muscles of the arteries and blood vessels become relaxed allowing for more blood to flow through.

Glycerol trinitrate comes in three forms off the shelf; tablet form, spray form and patch form. The tablets are normal tabs that can be swallowed by the user. The sprays are applied under the tongue and usually take a maximum of about three to four minutes to take effect. The patches are worn on a hairless part of the skin over a given period and are absorbed directly into the body
